Blackjack Rules DefinitionYou can play just one place at the table (called a box), or if the online casino allows 'multi hand' then you can play more than one hand at once. Place your bet by choosing a chip size and clicking it on the relevant box.
Each box is then dealt two cards; this is called the initial deal. The croupier only gets one card at first. The croupier will call out the total points of the first two cards per box, and you will then be asked if you want to hit or stand (you may also be asked if you want to split or double, see below).
Your aim is to get closer to 21 than the dealer, without busting (or going over 21). Once you have taken as many cards as you wish, and the other boxes have done the same, the dealer will draw cards until his total is over 16 or he has busted.
If your score is over 21, the croupier will call 'too many' or 'bust' and you will lose your bet.
If your score is less than 21 but more than the croupier's total, then you will will double your bet.
If you both have the same amount, it is a 'push' and your bet is returned to you.
If you have blackjack (an ace and a picture card or a ten) you will be paid 1.5 times your bet (unless the croupier also has blackjack in which case it is a push)
A soft hand is when at least one of your first cards is an Ace. The ace counts as either 1 or 111 so a third card can be taken without the risk of busting. No more cards can be bought if the value is 21 or 'soft 21'
You may double after the first two cards are dealt- this mean you receive one more card only and you double your original bet at the same time. This is a great bet at certain times, for example when you have an 11 with the first two cards, doubling is a great idea as a 10 is very likely, making 21.
You may also split if the first two cards are of equal value. Again you need to make a further bet the same size as the first one. The cards are split and played as two seperate hands. You can look at the Casinorichlist strategy card in order to find out when best to split and maximise your returns.
